A new ornament is released every year in the fall, just in time for the holidays. This fun tradition began in 2004 when Howard Levine and the Downtown Grass Valley Association found an ornament manufacturer that specialized in custom made ornaments. Built as a single-screen movie house and adorned with classic Art Deco/Moderne style architecture, the Del Oro represents an unforgettable slice in time, and despite renovation, signs of that faraway time are still very present, as well as the ghost stories and underground passageways that accompany such pockets in history. Renovated into a triplex in the 1970s, two additional theaters were added, giving the Del Oro a total of 845 seats."
In 2016 the Getz/LaMarca family, owners of the Del Oro since 1989, refurbished Del Oro's marquee and tower to go back to its 1940's looks and upgraded the lighting. The famous spire went from green neon back to gold. “The best thing about the Del Oro Theatre is the charm, the fact that it maintains this feeling of what going to the movies used to be,” LaMarca said. “Our goal is to keep the balance between the modern experience and the charm of the 1940’s.”
The Del Oro, and its gorgeous spire, is a beloved landmark of Grass Valley.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0814/9401/6223/files/DelOroOrnament_1a6869a6-adf5-4d80-bb81-753507e2a9b1.jpg?v=1782309550
